I’ve been a terrible online business owner for the past several months (years?). I haven’t posted many blogs or sent many emails. And all gurus say content's the key to a successful online business (that's pretty true BTW).

I really don’t want to bore you with my excuses because it's not all that exciting. When it comes down to it I'm just a lazy business owner. And I'm cool with that. I'm Ronii + I'm sorry. That's a good name for a podcast one day. #sorrynotsorry.

I feel like there's a lot of pressure around December and January to do a bunch of business planning and start a 'New Year, New You' campaign. Only to be disappointed when I drop out by like the 3rd.

It's like I'm setting myself up for failure. I had a boss that used to say to all his employees, "I give you just enough rope to hang yourself". Seriously? Did you just admit that you are setting me up to fail? Asshole.

It's no secret that 2020 has been a dumpster fire for a lot of people. I mean change is hard for everyone. And we're all being asked to change.

While our habits + routines are changing daily, I'm not a new person overnight. The same goes for my business. I'm still going to procrastinate finishing this piece tomorrow. And most likely next week too.

But a few things remain the same.

Keys to a Successful Business

  • I'm building a business, not a job for myself. A few years ago when I spend 2 weeks in the hospital with a ruptured appendix I thought, what’s the point? Why start a business that stops if I do? It shouldn’t. I’d be the first to tell any one of my clients that building a business that stops when you do is just bad business. All you have done is given yourself a job. You might as well go work for someone else + not deal with all the stress and hopefully get health insurance.

  • Pay for shit. I've said it before, and I'll say it again if you have more time than money then spend 8 hours a day on Instagram building an audience. But if you're like me and don't have that kind of time or, let's be honest, just don't want to do it then you need to pay for it. You need to hire someone to do it for you or you need to buy ads.

  • Work smarter, not harder. I think we are taught from an early age that the harder we work the more reward we will benefit. But as I’ve grown into my entrepreneurship I’m finding that working harder is just working longer + being busier. It doesn’t actually equate to dollars in the bank. Working smarter + making better decisions gives you more bang for your buck because time is money + the ROI on working smarter has a higher profit margin. That's a lot of cliches + business jargon in 1 little sentence. You get it though.

Running an online business isn't that hard. You don't need an MBA to do it, trust me I have one. That was harder.

In honor of my well-earned business laziness, this year is going to be a lot of going with the flow and working on things I'm really excited about like STALKER.

Sure, I'm a strategist but when it comes down to it I'm a realist and that's more profitable and fun.
