Take a Risk

Last week was a strange week for me. I had things happen that normally do not and it through me for a loop really. Also, I guess it is because the week before was so charged and busy and I'm crashing from the high of it all. You know that feeling. You are so excited about something that you can't wait for it to get here and then when it does and its great but afterwards its just ... over. If you hadn't heard I came in third in my category but WOW, how amazing is it that my name is the mix of this phenomenal group of women. WOW! Now that everything is wrapping up I sit back and ask myself, "how do I keep this momentum going?" That lead me to the topic for this week's blog - Take a Risk.

I don't know if you noticed or not but I put an ad on Craigslist for a business development partner. I need help. I know I do and I can't do all of it all alone anymore. I thought about those areas in which I'm not the best and came to the conclusion I need help in lead generation and closing sales. That's a weakness of mine and I know it (isn't the first step to recovery, admitting you have a problem?). I'm a marketer, not a salesman. I view these positions as two very different things. So I took a risk and posted something that was straight forward and honest about what I'm looking for. This is a risk for me because 1. I have to admit I can't do it all by myself and 2. I will have to give up control over a portion of my business to someone who hasn't slaved over my creation for the past two and half years like I have. This is scary but I have to do it to grow, so I'm taking a risk. In the end I decided if I put it out there what do I have to lose? I don't HAVE to hire anyone if I don't feel right about it but what if I come across that one person that could sell ice to eskimos and can really help me take my vision and passion to the level I want it to be and can't achieve on my own.

The moral of the story is that sometimes you need to just take a risk and draw outside of the lines and do that thing that scares you a little. Step outside of your comfort zone and just see if the grass is greener on the other side (like how I just smashed two cliches together? Nice). Last week I talked about how the smartest thing about me is that I surround myself with people that are smarter and more influential than me so here I am looking for that again. Who knows what I'll find? I might find that the world is full of sleazy used car salesmen ... OR ... I just might find that one person that gets my vision and can take it to a whole new level. I hope I find that lader. Wish me luck and find your risk and take it.
